National Updates

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India will seek greater market access for basmati rice in Japan during the review of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), while also exploring opportunities to expand exports of processed food products.

  • The death toll in the massive flash floods in Nepal rose to 359 as authorities in Nepal race against time to find thousands of missing people, including 285 Indian tourists, in one of the country’s worst disasters in recent years.

  • The External Affairs Ministry has said that 84 Indian nationals have been rescued so far in Nepal. These include 63 workers of the Trishuli-1 project as well as 21 people from Tamil Nadu. The Ministry said that contact with 290 Indians have not been established. .

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said the country is moving towards self-reliance in the defence sector as defence production has nearly quadrupled to around 1.8 lakh crore rupees and exports have surged to nearly 39,000 crore rupees over the last decade.

International Updates

  • UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has voiced deep sadness over the severe flooding in Nepal and China that has caused widespread destruction. The international body allocated an initial tranche of two million US dollars for relief operations.

  • A barrier lake formed near the confluence of the Chhochen Khola and Purepu Tsangpo rivers in Nepal could face a high risk of breaching over the next three days. According to the China’s Ministry of Water Resources, the lake held an estimated two million cubic metres of water.

  • US lawmakers reintroduced legislation aimed at tightening sanctions on China-based entities accused of supporting the production, trafficking and sale of fentanyl and its precursor chemicals. The bipartisan CCP Fentanyl Sanctions Act was reintroduced by the House Select Committee on China.

  • The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) accused Pakistani security forces of enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and forced evictions in the Shadi Kor area of Balochistan.

Sports Update

  • In Men’s Cricket, the second and final Test between India and Sri Lanka ended in a draw, with the hosts at 429 for 9 in their second innings on the fifth and final day in Colombo. Despite the draw, the Shubman Gill-led side clinched the two-match series 1-0.

  • Grand Master Trilok Subba from Sikkim has been selected to represent India at the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship.

वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने कहा कि भारत व्यापक आर्थिक भागीदारी समझौते (सीईपीए) की समीक्षा के दौरान जापान में बासमती चावल के लिए अधिक बाजार पहुंच की मांग करेगा, साथ ही प्रसंस्कृत खाद्य उत्पादों के निर्यात का विस्तार करने के अवसरों की भी खोज करेगा।
• नेपाल में आई भीषण बाढ़ में मरने वालों की संख्या बढ़कर 359 हो गई है, क्योंकि नेपाल में अधिकारी हाल के वर्षों में देश की सबसे भीषण आपदाओं में से एक में 285 भारतीय पर्यटकों सहित हजारों लापता लोगों को खोजने के लिए समय के खिलाफ दौड़ रहे हैं।
• विदेश मंत्रालय ने कहा है कि नेपाल में अब तक ८४ भारतीय नागरिकों को बचाया गया है। इनमें त्रिशूली-१ परियोजना के ६३ श्रमिकों के साथ-साथ तमिलनाडु के २१ लोग भी शामिल हैं। मंत्रालय ने कहा कि २९० भारतीयों से संपर्क स्थापित नहीं किया गया है। ।
• रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने कहा है कि देश रक्षा क्षेत्र में आत्मनिर्भरता की ओर बढ़ रहा है क्योंकि पिछले दशक में रक्षा उत्पादन लगभग चौगुना होकर लगभग १.८ लाख करोड़ रुपये हो गया है और निर्यात लगभग ३९,००० करोड़ रुपये तक बढ़ गया है।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव एंटोनियो गुटेरेस ने नेपाल और चीन में आई भीषण बाढ़ पर गहरा दुख व्यक्त किया है, जिससे व्यापक विनाश हुआ है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय निकाय ने राहत कार्यों के लिए दो मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की प्रारंभिक किश्त आवंटित की।
• नेपाल में छोचेन खोला और पुरेपु त्सांगपो नदियों के संगम के पास बनी एक अवरोधक झील को अगले तीन दिनों में टूटने का उच्च जोखिम का सामना करना पड़ सकता है। चीन के जल संसाधन मंत्रालय के अनुसार, झील में अनुमानतः दो मिलियन क्यूबिक मीटर पानी है।
• अमेरिकी सांसदों ने फेंटेनाइल और इसके पूर्ववर्ती रसायनों के उत्पादन, तस्करी और बिक्री का समर्थन करने के आरोपी चीन स्थित संस्थाओं पर प्रतिबंधों को कड़ा करने के उद्देश्य से कानून फिर से पेश किया। चीन संबंधी सदन की प्रवर समिति द्वारा द्विदलीय सीसीपी फेंटेनाइल प्रतिबंध अधिनियम को पुनः प्रस्तुत किया गया।
• बलूच यकजेती समिति (बीवाईसी) ने पाकिस्तानी सुरक्षा बलों पर बलूचिस्तान के शादी कोर इलाके में जबरन गायब करने, मनमाने ढंग से हिरासत में लेने और जबरन बेदखली का आरोप लगाया।
