• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh today.
• India has strongly taken up the matter of the death of an Indian national in Russia with the Russian authorities in Moscow and the Russian Embassy in New Delhi.

• Coal imports in the country have dropped by over three percent from April to October last year. It has dropped from over 154 million tonnes to over 149 million tonnes during the same period in the previous year.

• In the USA, firefighters in Los Angeles are battling multiple blazes as officials warn of strong winds that could fuel rapid fire growth. Southern California also faces extremely critical fire conditions as strong Santa Ana winds threaten new wildfires and hinder recent firefighting progress.

• Ukraine carried out massive drone and missile strikes on several regions of Russia overnight. The attack damaged at least two factories and forced schools to close in a major southern Russian city.
• The Future Minerals Forum (FMF) 2025 commenced in Riyadh, bringing together representatives from the mining industry from over 85 countries to address critical challenges in the mineral sector.
• At least 100 people mining illegally in an abandoned gold mine in South Africa are feared to have died after being trapped deep underground for months while police tried to rescue them.
• North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea. South Korea’s military said it detected the launches this morning from the Kanggye area in the North’s Jagang Province, and the missiles flew about 250 kilometres before splashing into the sea.
• The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Tuesday demanded that the interim government of Bangladesh arrange the next national election by August this year in the greater interest of the country.
• The first formal hearing in South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment trial lasted just four minutes due to his absence. The Constitutional Court dismissed Yoon’s request to exclude one of the eight justices from the trial.
• The Australian government has launched the first national strategy to improve the lives of people with autism.

Sports Updates

• In the Kho Kho World Cup 2025, the Indian women’s team started their campaign with a big win against South Korea, finishing with a score of 175-18.
• In badminton, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles event at the India Open Badminton in New Delhi.
• In the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament, the Indian pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the round of 16. They defeated the Taiwan pair of Hsu Ya Ching and Chen Cheng Kuan in the Mixed Doubles round of 32.
