National Updates

• The Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 has come into effect yesterday. The government has issued a notification to this effect following the assent given by President Droupadi Murmu to the legislation. Last week, both Houses of Parliament passed the legislation.

• The meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision-making body of the Congress, was held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad. The meeting was attended by over 150 members, including National President Mallikarjun Kharge.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, in New Delhi.

• The government has issued a notification for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. Recently, the Union Cabinet approved this scheme with a funding of 22,919 crore rupees to make India Atmanirbhar in the electronics supply chain.

• वक्फ (संशोधन) अधिनियम २०२५ कल से लागू हो गया है। राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू द्वारा कानून को दी गई सहमति के बाद सरकार ने इस आशय की अधिसूचना जारी की है। पिछले हफ्ते संसद के दोनों सदनों ने कानून पारित किया।
• कांग्रेस की सर्वोच्च निर्णय लेने वाली संस्था कांग्रेस कार्य समिति की बैठक अहमदाबाद के सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल राष्ट्रीय स्मारक में हुई। बैठक में राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे सहित १५० से अधिक सदस्यों ने भाग लिया।
• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने नई दिल्ली में दुबई के क्राउन प्रिंस और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात के उप प्रधान मंत्री और रक्षा मंत्री शेख हमदान बिन मोहम्मद अल मकतूम से मुलाकात की।
• सरकार ने इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स कंपोनेंट मैन्युफैक्चरिंग स्कीम के लिए नोटिफिकेशन जारी किया है। हाल ही में केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने भारत को इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आपूर्ति श्रृंखला में आत्मनिर्भर बनाने के लिए २२,९१९ करोड़ रुपये के वित्त पोषण के साथ इस योजना को मंजूरी दी।

• Bangladesh has inked the ‘Artemis Accords’ as the 54th country with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), focused on non-military space exploration.

• The South Korean government officially set June 3rd as the date for the next presidential election, following the ouster of President Yoon Suk Yeol. The announcement came at a Cabinet meeting after the Constitutional Court upheld Yoon’s impeachment due to his brief imposition of martial law.

• The US military conducted 22 airstrikes across northern Yemen, targeting Houthi sites in areas near the capital Sanaa, the Kamaran Island, and around the oil-rich Marib province. No casualties have been reported yet, though residents described the airstrikes as very powerful.

• Ukraine plans to send negotiators to the United States this week to discuss Washington’s latest proposed deal for access to its rare earth mineral deposits. The team would travel to the U.S. to advance negotiations on the contentious agreement, which President Donald Trump has made a key condition.

• President Donald Trump announced that the United States has begun direct negotiations with Iran regarding its nuclear program, despite Tehran’s previous dismissal of Washington’s calls for dialogue.
