National Updates

• The Union Cabinet approved GOBARdhan, the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, with a total outlay of 23,731 crore rupees. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said this will create 1.5 lakh jobs.

• Commerce and Industry Ministry has refuted claims in media that India is importing and intends to import large quantities of ethanol from the United States for fuel blending, as baseless and factually incorrect.

• India today successfully test-fired the medium-range ballistic missile Agni-4 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. The Defence Ministry said the launch validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile.

• Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu has debunked the claims stating that the Government plans to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) are completely false and irresponsible.

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing in Lok sabha. The Bill was passed amid din without any discussion. It seeks to amend the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the Income-tax Act, 2025, and others.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu reviewed sustained progress in India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership. Mr Modi received a telephone call from Mr Netanyahu. Both the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the bilateral relations.

• Political activity intensified both inside and outside the Jharkhand Assembly on the opening day of the Monsoon Session over the JPSC and JSSC examination controversy.The State Government has initiated efforts to break the deadlock.

International Updates

• Iran and Oman have reached an understanding to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days. According to the local media reports, the agreement, which still needs approval by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and could be announced within days, aims to resume navigation in the waterway.

• Widening use of security powers by Pakistani forces has increased human rights concerns in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, PoJK. Over the past decade, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and several other international organisations have repeatedly raised concerns.

• Bangladesh’s Election Commission announced that presidential election will be held on 20th of this month. The elections were necessitated after Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned from the post on July 24, two years ahead of the end of his tenure.

• In United Kingdom, Members of the British Kashmiri diaspora staged a demonstration in Bradford yesterday, expressing solidarity with the people of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and voicing support for the demands of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

• The Government has said that 60 merchant vessels carrying cargo were safely moved through the Strait of Hormuz despite the heightened security situation in the West Asia region.

• In Badminton, India’s Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha and Rakshitha Ramraj have progressed to the Women singles quarterfinals at the Korea Masters in Asan. Tanvi continued her impressive run by defeating her compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 in the pre-quarterfinals.

• Hockey India today announced the 18-member Indian junior women’s team for the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026, to be held in Moqi, China, from August 30 to September 13. The squad comprises 18 players along with two alternate players and will be led by midfielder Khaidem Shileima Chanu.

• केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने २३,७३१ करोड़ रुपये के कुल परिव्यय के साथ राष्ट्रीय परिपत्र जैव ऊर्जा योजना गोवर्धन को मंजूरी दी। आज दोपहर नई दिल्ली में मीडिया को जानकारी देते हुए सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने कहा कि इससे १.५ लाख नौकरियां पैदा होंगी।
• वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्रालय ने मीडिया में किए गए उन दावों का खंडन किया है कि भारत ईंधन मिश्रण के लिए संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका से बड़ी मात्रा में इथेनॉल का आयात कर रहा है और करने का इरादा रखता है, तथा इसे निराधार और तथ्यात्मक रूप से गलत बताया है।
• भारत ने आज ओडिशा के चांदीपुर में एकीकृत परीक्षण रेंज से मध्यम दूरी की बैलिस्टिक मिसाइल अग्नि-4 का सफलतापूर्वक परीक्षण किया। रक्षा मंत्रालय ने कहा कि प्रक्षेपण ने मिसाइल के सभी परिचालन और तकनीकी मापदंडों को मान्य किया।
• नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री के. राममोहन नायडू ने इन दावों को खारिज करते हुए कहा है कि सरकार की विमानन टरबाइन ईंधन (एटीएफ) के साथ इथेनॉल को मिश्रित करने की योजना पूरी तरह से झूठी और गैर-जिम्मेदाराना है।
• वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने कराधान एवं अन्य कानून (संशोधन) विधेयक, 2026 को लोकसभा में विचार एवं पारित करने के लिए पेश किया। विधेयक बिना किसी चर्चा के शोरगुल के बीच पारित हो गया। इसका उद्देश्य भुगतान एवं निपटान प्रणाली अधिनियम, 2007, आयकर अधिनियम, 2025 तथा अन्य में संशोधन करना है।
• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और उनके इजरायली समकक्ष बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू ने भारत-इजरायल विशेष रणनीतिक साझेदारी में निरंतर प्रगति की समीक्षा की। श्री मोदी को श्री नेतन्याहू का टेलीफोन कॉल आया। दोनों नेताओं ने द्विपक्षीय संबंधों को और मजबूत करने की अपनी प्रतिबद्धता की पुष्टि की।
