National Updates

• India and Thailand signed six agreements for cooperation in various fields including IT, maritime, MSME, handicraft and handloom sectors. The agreements were exchanged following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Bangkok.

• The Ministry of Home Affairs convened a meeting with Gorkha representatives to address issues concerning the Gorkha community in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai.

• The Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court verdict invalidating the appointment of more than 25000 teachers and other staff in West Bengal schools. The top court said that the entire selection process is vitiated by manipulation and fraud and its credibility and legitimacy denuded.

• The Lok Sabha has passed the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024. The Bill seeks to regulate vessels engaged in trade within Indian coastal waters. Under the Bill, coastal waters mean territorial waters of India, along with adjoining maritime zones.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with the Holy Scriptures: “World Ti-pitaka: Sajjhaya Phonetic Edition” by his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra at Bangkok.

• Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan has said the government will soon build 100 food testing labs in the country to ensure food quality.

• भारत और थाईलैंड ने आईटी, समुद्री, एमएसएमई, हस्तशिल्प और हथकरघा क्षेत्रों सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में सहयोग के लिए छह समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए। बैंकॉक में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और उनके थाई समकक्ष पेटोंगटार्न शिनावात्रा के बीच द्विपक्षीय वार्ता के बाद समझौतों का आदान-प्रदान किया गया।
• गृह मंत्रालय ने नई दिल्ली में गोरखा समुदाय से संबंधित मुद्दों के समाधान के लिए गोरखा प्रतिनिधियों के साथ एक बैठक बुलाई। बैठक की अध्यक्षता केंद्रीय गृह राज्य मंत्री नित्यानंद राय ने की।
• सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने पश्चिम बंगाल के स्कूलों में २५००० से अधिक शिक्षकों और अन्य कर्मचारियों की नियुक्ति को अमान्य करने वाले कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय के फैसले को बरकरार रखा। शीर्ष अदालत ने कहा कि पूरी चयन प्रक्रिया हेरफेर और धोखाधड़ी से खराब हो गई है और इसकी विश्वसनीयता और वैधता को नकार दिया गया है।
• लोकसभा ने तटीय नौवहन विधेयक, २०२४ पारित कर दिया है। विधेयक भारतीय तटीय जल के भीतर व्यापार में लगे जहाजों को विनियमित करने का प्रयास करता है। विधेयक के तहत, तटीय जल का मतलब निकटवर्ती समुद्री क्षेत्रों के साथ-साथ भारत का क्षेत्रीय जल है।
• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को बैंकॉक में उनके थाई समकक्ष पेटोंगटार्न शिनावात्रा द्वारा पवित्र ग्रंथ: “वर्ल्ड टी-पिटका: सज्जया फोनेटिक एडिशन” प्रदान किया गया।
• केंद्रीय खाद्य प्रसंस्करण मंत्री चिराग पासवान ने कहा है कि सरकार खाद्य गुणवत्ता सुनिश्चित करने के लिए जल्द ही देश में १०० खाद्य परीक्षण लैब बनाएगी।

International Updates

• Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Harini Amarasuriya had a meeting in Bangkok. During the meeting, the two Prime Ministers discussed various matters of bilateral and mutual interests.

• Hungary’s government has announced its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC), just before Prime Minister Viktor Orban received his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces an ICC arrest warrant.

• The Pakistan government has started a major nationwide crackdown on Afghan nationals in the country after the deadline passed for them to return voluntarily. The authorities have arrested hundreds of illegal foreigners, including Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders, and transferred them to camps.

• The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Government of Nepal and Project Implementing Agencies of Government of Nepal signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for undertaking 10 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal under the grant assistance of the Government of India.

• In Japan, a strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale struck Kyushu region yesterday at 7:34 PM (IST).
