National Updates

  • The third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads of States and Union Territories concluded in New Delhi. The two-day conference was organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau under the theme United Resolve, Shared Responsibility.

  • Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched the commercial use of bio-based biodegradable plastic based on Polylactic Acid (PLA), marking an important step in India’s transition towards next-generation sustainable manufacturing.

  • Government sources emphasised that Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on person-to-merchant UPI transactions above two thousand rupees is not a Cess or Surcharge. Sources said not a single rupee of MDR goes to the Government. They said that MDR stays within the payment ecosystem.

  • The Government has reduced the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on major imported crude edible oils with a view to moderating domestic edible oil prices. This provides relief to consumers and mitigates inflationary pressures arising from the sharp increase in international edible oil prices.

  • US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor witnessed the India-US joint military Exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2026’ at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan and highlighted the strength of the India-US defence partnership.

  • India and the Netherlands have strengthened strategic partnership and cooperation in the water sector. Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil and Vice Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands, Jaap Slootmaker chaired a bilateral meeting in New Delhi.

International Updates

  • Bangladesh has suspended hilsa imports from India. The decision took effect yesterday, halting hilsa imports through the Benapole land port. Bangladesh importers have expressed concern over financial losses following the sudden suspension.

  • The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis said that its forces had intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis. The coalition said the missiles were aimed at the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu.

  • Secretary (West) Sibi George participated in the second G7 Development Ministers meeting organised by the G7 Chair, France, on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York. In his remarks, Mr George emphasized India’s human-centric and inclusive path of development.

  • External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar chaired a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation, FIPIC, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Sports Update

  • India won a silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games in Nagoya. The quartet of Poovamma Raju, Vishal Thennarasu, Vithya Ramraj and Manu TS claimed the silver medal with a timing of 3:14.46, successfully defending the medal they won in the last edition in 2023 in Hangzhou.

  • Seema Kumari has bagged a bronze medal for India in the women’s 10,000 metre final at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi Nagoya in Japan. She crossed the finish line with a time of 32:50.05 to secure a bronze medal.

  • In Shooting, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal bagged the bronze medal in the mixed skeet team event at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.The medal is India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the mixed skeet team category.

  • Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won a bronze in the men’s double sculls as India concluded their rowing campaign at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya with one medal. The Indian pair clocked 6:13.25 at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course to finish behind China’s Yi Xudi and Nie Yide.

• मादक पदार्थ निरोधक कार्य बल (एएनटीएफ) के राष्ट्राध्यक्षों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों का तीसरा राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन नई दिल्ली में संपन्न हुआ। दो दिवसीय सम्मेलन का आयोजन नारकोटिक्स कंट्रोल ब्यूरो द्वारा यूनाइटेड रिज़ॉल्व, शेयर्ड रिस्पॉन्सिबिलिटी विषय के तहत किया गया था।
• विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री डॉ. जितेंद्र सिंह ने पॉलीलैक्टिक एसिड (पीएलए) पर आधारित जैव-आधारित बायोडिग्रेडेबल प्लास्टिक के व्यावसायिक उपयोग की शुरुआत की, जो अगली पीढ़ी के टिकाऊ विनिर्माण की दिशा में भारत के संक्रमण में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।
• सरकारी सूत्रों ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि दो हजार रुपये से अधिक के व्यक्ति-से-व्यापारी यूपीआई लेनदेन पर व्यापारी छूट दर (एमडीआर) कोई उपकर या अधिभार नहीं है। सूत्रों ने बताया कि एमडीआर का एक भी रुपया सरकार को नहीं जाता। उन्होंने कहा कि एमडीआर भुगतान पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के भीतर ही रहता है।
• सरकार ने घरेलू खाद्य तेल की कीमतों को कम करने के उद्देश्य से प्रमुख आयातित कच्चे खाद्य तेलों पर मूल सीमा शुल्क (बीसीडी) को कम कर दिया है। इससे उपभोक्ताओं को राहत मिलती है और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय खाद्य तेल की कीमतों में तीव्र वृद्धि से उत्पन्न मुद्रास्फीति संबंधी दबाव कम होता है।
• भारत में अमेरिकी राजदूत सर्जियो गोर ने राजस्थान के महाजन फील्ड फायरिंग रेंज में भारत-अमेरिका संयुक्त सैन्य अभ्यास ‘यूध अभ्यास 2026’ देखा और भारत-अमेरिका रक्षा साझेदारी की ताकत पर प्रकाश डाला।
• भारत और नीदरलैंड ने जल क्षेत्र में रणनीतिक साझेदारी और सहयोग को मजबूत किया है। जल शक्ति मंत्री सीआर पाटिल और नीदरलैंड के बुनियादी ढांचे और जल प्रबंधन उप मंत्री जाप स्लोटमेकर ने नई दिल्ली में एक द्विपक्षीय बैठक की अध्यक्षता की।
