• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam.. He also unveiled an 80-foot statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bardoloi, outside the new terminal of the airport.

• Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated two National Highway projects worth around 3,200 crore rupees at Ranaghat in Nadia district of West Bengal. The Prime Minister inaugurated the 66.7 km-long four-laning of the Barajaguli-Krishnanagar section of National Highway-34.

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast snowfall over Western Himalayan region for the next three days. IMD said that heavy snowfall is expected at isolated places over Jammu – Kashmir and Ladakh.

International Updates

• The newly created party CPN, formed by the merger of 10 leftist parties, organised a public assembly in Kathmandu on Saturday. With 75 days to go for the 5 March elections, political parties have started campaigning in public.

• In Bangkok, a global group of prominent judges, writers, and intellectuals gathered to adopt a formal resolution calling for immediate world peace amid rising regional tensions.

• The US military carried out a strike against the Islamic State group in Syria, in response to a deadly attack on American forces in the country. The US Central Command said that fighter jets, attack helicopters and artillery struck more than 70 targets at multiple locations.

• United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called on all stakeholders in Bangladesh to exercise restraint, reduce tensions and refrain from violence as the country moves toward parliamentary elections scheduled for February.

• The US space agency NASA has lost contact with the Mars probe MAVEN. No regular data had been received for around two weeks. The orbiter, which has been studying the Martian atmosphere since 2014, stopped sending regular data.

• A Russian ballistic missile strike on port infrastructure in Odesa killed 8 people and wounded 27 others yesterday, marking a deadly escalation as Ukrainian forces launched long-range drone strikes deep into Russian-controlled territory.

• International Monetary Fund, IMF has approved an emergency funding of 206 million dollar under its rapid finance instrument to help Sri Lanka address the urgent needs arising from the catastrophic Cyclone Ditwah and preserve macroeconomic stability.

• A Pakistani court today sentenced jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years imprisonment each in the Toshakhana 2 corruption case. The case is about alleged fraud in state gifts, which the former first couple received from the Saudi government in 2021.

• The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the T20 World Cup squad. Shubman Gill has been removed from vice-captaincy and dropped from the squad amid fitness and form concerns.

• प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने पश्चिम बंगाल के नादिया जिले के राणाघाट में लगभग 3,200 करोड़ रुपये की लागत वाली दो राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग परियोजनाओं की आधारशिला रखी और उनका उद्घाटन किया। प्रधानमंत्री ने राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-३४ के बाराजागुली-कृष्णनगर खंड के ६६.७ किमी लंबे चार लेन वाले हिस्से का उद्घाटन किया।
• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) ने अगले तीन दिनों तक पश्चिमी हिमालय क्षेत्र में बर्फबारी का अनुमान लगाया है। आईएमडी ने कहा कि जम्मू-कश्मीर और लद्दाख के अलग-अलग स्थानों पर भारी बर्फबारी की आशंका है।
