National Updates

• Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Carlos Arturo Hoyos and Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal held delegation level talks in New Delhi. In a social media post, External Affairs Ministry said that both countries had useful discussions on UN matters.

• The Cabinet has approved a total outlay of 6520 crore rupees, including additional outlay of 1920 crore rupees for ongoing Central Sector Scheme “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana” during 15th Finance Commission Cycle.

• Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that Elon Musk-led Starlink has received a license to launch satellite internet service in India and a framework for spectrum allocation is also in place for a smooth rollout.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN by disbursing more than 20 thousand 500 crore rupees to over nine crore 70 lakh farmers on Saturday during his visit to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

• The second edition of India-UAE defence industry partnership seminar was held on the sidelines of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee in New Delhi. During the event, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to forge a future-ready, resilient and trusted defence partnership.

• Defence Ministry said the third ship of Nilgiri Class (Project 17A) and the first of the class built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers was delivered to the Indian Navy at GRSE, Kolkata.

• The Election Commission has finalized the Electoral College list for the 2025 Vice-Presidential Election, as mandated by the Constitution.

International updates

• Myanmar’s National Defence and Security Council, NDSC formed a new union government and State Security and Peace Commission. According to Myanmar Radio and Television, the Union government is led by U Nyo Saw as Prime Minister.

• Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Bangladesh, has said it is time for the interim government of Bangladesh to exit, urging it to prepare an “exit plan”. “It must now be made clear how this government will leave.

• The Philippines’ President, Ferdinand R Marcos, will be on a five-day state visit to India from 4th August. Mr Marcos will be accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, and a high-level delegation including several Cabinet Ministers, other dignitaries and senior officials.

• Australia will ban children under 16 from creating YouTube accounts starting this December, as part of its world-first social media restrictions. The ban already applies to TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), and now YouTube is included.

• US President Donald Trump has announced that he has reached a trade agreement with South Korea, which includes a 15 per cent tariff on South Korean exports to the United States.

• In a historic first, the United Kingdom has appointed Professor Michele Dougherty as Astronomer Royal, making her the first woman to hold the prestigious title in its 350-year history.

Sports Updates

• In Badminton, India’s Tharun Mannepalli and Lakshya Sen have entered the Men’s singles quarterfinals of the Macau Open tournament. Tharun defeated Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong 19-21, 21-14, 22-20 while Lakshya defeated Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-14, 14-21, 21-17.

• The organisers of the World Championships of Legends have called off the semifinal clash between the Indian Champions and the Pakistani Champions after the Indian players refused to play against Pakistan.

• Ayush Mhatre will lead the Indian Under-19 team on a multi-format tour of Australia starting September 21. India will play three one-day matches and two four-day games against the Australian U-19 team.

• पनामा के विदेश उप मंत्री कार्लोस आर्टुरो होयोस और सचिव (पश्चिम) तनमाया लाल ने नई दिल्ली में प्रतिनिधिमंडल स्तर की वार्ता की। एक सोशल मीडिया पोस्ट में विदेश मंत्रालय ने कहा कि दोनों देशों ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र के मामलों पर उपयोगी चर्चा की।
• मंत्रिमंडल ने कुल 6520 करोड़ रुपये के परिव्यय को मंजूरी दी है, जिसमें 15वें वित्त आयोग चक्र के दौरान चल रही केंद्रीय क्षेत्र योजना “प्रधानमंत्री किसान सम्पूर्ण योजना” के लिए 1920 करोड़ रुपये का अतिरिक्त परिव्यय भी शामिल है।
• केंद्रीय संचार मंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया ने कहा कि एलन मस्क के नेतृत्व वाली स्टारलिंक को भारत में सैटेलाइट इंटरनेट सेवा शुरू करने का लाइसेंस मिल गया है और सुचारू रूप से इसकी शुरुआत के लिए स्पेक्ट्रम आवंटन की रूपरेखा भी तैयार कर ली गई है।
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी की अपनी यात्रा के दौरान शनिवार को नौ करोड़ ७० लाख से अधिक किसानों को २० हजार ५०० करोड़ रुपये से अधिक वितरित करके पीएम-किसान की २० वीं किस्त जारी करेंगे।
• भारत-यूएई रक्षा उद्योग साझेदारी सेमिनार का दूसरा संस्करण नई दिल्ली में संयुक्त रक्षा सहयोग समिति के अवसर पर आयोजित किया गया। आयोजन के दौरान, दोनों देशों ने भविष्य के लिए तैयार, लचीली और विश्वसनीय रक्षा साझेदारी बनाने की अपनी प्रतिबद्धता की पुष्टि की।
• रक्षा मंत्रालय ने कहा कि नीलगिरि श्रेणी (प्रोजेक्ट 17ए) का तीसरा जहाज और गार्डन रीच शिपबिल्डर्स एंड इंजीनियर्स में निर्मित इस श्रेणी का पहला जहाज कोलकाता के जीआरएसई में भारतीय नौसेना को सौंप दिया गया है।
• चुनाव आयोग ने संविधान के अनुसार 2025 के उपराष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए निर्वाचक मंडल की सूची को अंतिम रूप दे दिया है।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अपडेट :

• म्यांमार की राष्ट्रीय रक्षा एवं सुरक्षा परिषद, एनडीएससी ने एक नई संघ सरकार और राज्य सुरक्षा एवं शांति आयोग का गठन किया। म्यांमार रेडियो और टेलीविजन के अनुसार, केंद्र सरकार का नेतृत्व प्रधान मंत्री के रूप में यू न्यो सॉ कर रहे हैं।
• बांग्लादेश के सेंटर फॉर पॉलिसी डायलॉग (सीपीडी) के प्रतिष्ठित फेलो देबप्रिया भट्टाचार्य ने कहा है कि बांग्लादेश की अंतरिम सरकार के बाहर निकलने का समय आ गया है, उन्होंने उससे “निकास योजना” तैयार करने का आग्रह किया है। “अब यह स्पष्ट किया जाना चाहिए कि यह सरकार कैसे जाएगी।
• फिलीपींस के राष्ट्रपति फर्डिनेंड आर मार्कोस 4 अगस्त से भारत की पांच दिवसीय राजकीय यात्रा पर होंगे। श्री मार्कोस के साथ प्रथम महिला लुईस अरनेटा मार्कोस और कई कैबिनेट मंत्रियों, अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्तियों और वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों सहित एक उच्च स्तरीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल भी होगा।
• ऑस्ट्रेलिया अपने विश्व के पहले सोशल मीडिया प्रतिबंधों के तहत इस दिसंबर से 16 वर्ष से कम उम्र के बच्चों के यूट्यूब अकाउंट बनाने पर प्रतिबंध लगाएगा। यह प्रतिबंध पहले से ही टिकटॉक, स्नैपचैट, इंस्टाग्राम, फेसबुक और एक्स (पूर्व में ट्विटर) पर लागू है और अब यूट्यूब भी इसमें शामिल है।
• अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने घोषणा की है कि वह दक्षिण कोरिया के साथ एक व्यापार समझौते पर पहुंच गए हैं, जिसमें संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका को दक्षिण कोरियाई निर्यात पर 15 प्रतिशत टैरिफ शामिल है।
• ऐतिहासिक रूप से पहली बार, यूनाइटेड किंगडम ने प्रोफेसर मिशेल डौघर्टी को रॉयल खगोलशास्त्री नियुक्त किया है, जिससे वह अपने 350 साल के इतिहास में यह प्रतिष्ठित उपाधि प्राप्त करने वाली पहली महिला बन गयी हैं।

बैडमिंटन में भारत के थरुन मन्नेपल्ली और लक्ष्य सेन मकाऊ ओपन टूर्नामेंट के पुरुष एकल क्वार्टर फाइनल में पहुंच गए हैं। थारुन ने हांगकांग के ली चेउक यिउ को 19-21, 21-14, 22-20 से हराया जबकि लक्ष्य ने इंडोनेशिया के चिको ऑरा द्वी वार्डोयो को 21-14, 14-21, 21-17 से हराया।
भारतीय खिलाड़ियों द्वारा पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ खेलने से इनकार करने के बाद विश्व चैंपियनशिप ऑफ लीजेंड्स के आयोजकों ने भारतीय चैंपियंस और पाकिस्तानी चैंपियंस के बीच सेमीफाइनल मुकाबले को रद्द कर दिया है।
आयुष म्हात्रे २१ सितंबर से शुरू होने वाले ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बहु-प्रारूप दौरे पर भारतीय अंडर-१९ टीम का नेतृत्व करेंगे। भारत ऑस्ट्रेलियाई अंडर-१९ टीम के खिलाफ तीन एक दिवसीय मैच और दो चार दिवसीय मैच खेलेगा।
