• In a move to boost India’s mining sector, the Ministry of Mines, in collaboration with the Government of Goa, has launched India’s first-ever auction of Exploration Licences. Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, and Goa’s Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, unveiled the initiative.

• India has termed the allegations made by Pakistan that India was involved in its train hijacking as baseless. In response to media queries on the remarks made by the Pakistan side, External Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said that New Delhi strongly rejects the baseless allegations.

• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has generated nearly 143 million US dollars in foreign exchange revenue through satellite launches. The Department of Space said that ISRO launched a total of 393 foreign satellites and 3 Indian customer satellites on a commercial basis over the past decade.

• Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said that Northeast is a key driver for India to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat and the region will also become the country’s next saffron hub.

• Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, crediting him for India’s rapid rise enroute to becoming the world’s third-largest economy in the near future.

• The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched an investigation into the sensational gold smuggling case involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao, the stepdaughter of Karnataka DGP K. Ramachandra Rao. ED has conducted searches and raids at eight locations in Bengaluru and other places.

• Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a 1 billion-dollar fund for the creator’s economy as part of the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025.

• China, Russia and Iran have called for an end to US sanctions on Iran and restart of nuclear talks. Representatives of the three nations who met in Beijing emphasized the necessity of terminating, what they called, “all unlawful unilateral sanctions”.

• NASA has revealed that global sea levels have risen faster than anticipated in 2024. The US space agency reported that the rate of sea level rise last year reached 0.59 centimeters per year, surpassing the expected 0.43 centimeters.

• Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to several world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, for their continued attention to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

• The United Nations Security Council has agreed to a statement condemning widespread violence in Syria’s coastal region and calling on Syria’s interim authorities to protect all Syrians, regardless of ethnicity or religion.
