1968 – Hargobind Khurana was awarded the Nobel Prize in the field of medicine.
1978 – Kapil Dev started his Test career in Faisalabad against Pakistan.
1982 – Soviet Union had conducted underground nuclear test.
1984 – Desmond Tutu of Africa was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace.
1996 – stampede during football match in Guatemala City caused by overcapacity of people in the stadium caused 84 deaths and over 180 injuries.
1999 – no.Ra. America had imposed sanctions on Pakistan in protest against military rule.
Sunita Rani of India was stripped of her medal after failing a gold and a bronze medalist doping test at the 2002 – 14th Asian Games.

2013 – 49 people died when a Lao Airlines plane crashed shortly before landing at Pakse International Airport in the South East Asian country of Laos.
2014 – New Zealand, Malaysia, Angola, Spain and Venezuela were elected into the United Nations Security Council.
